Smriti Khurana

Counsellor

5.5 Year of Experience

I’m a counselling psychologist and psychotherapist with over five years of experience across schools, colleges, and private practice as psychotherapist. I work with children, pre-teens, teenagers, parents, queer and trans individuals, college students, young adults, working professionals, and fellow psychologists. Parents often reach out when they notice their child struggling emotionally, behaviourally, or socially and are looking for a space that feels safe and developmentally sensitive. Young adults and adults often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer feel aligned. I support clients across age groups with concerns such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, emotional regulation, stress and anger, procrastination, grief and loss, self-esteem and confidence, relationship and attachment challenges, sexuality, trauma, PTSD, life transitions, and moments of crisis.

Therapeutic Approach – My approach is person-centered and non-directive, grounded in the belief that people (an adult or a child) thrive when they feel safe, understood, and respected. Drawing from humanistic and existential traditions, I view therapy as a space to explore emotions, meaning, choice, and identity at a pace that honours each individual’s developmental stage and lived experience. I work through a trauma-informed and intersectional lens, with close attention to safety, consent, emotional regulation, and the impact of early experiences on behaviour and relationships. I am queer-affirmative and committed to creating an inclusive, non-judgmental space and affirming space for my queer and trans clients. When working with children and adolescents, I collaborate closely with parents while prioritising the child’s emotional world and need for trust. In sessions, I bring warmth, presence, and curiosity, allowing therapy to feel relational and collaborative rather than corrective or pathologising.
Credentials & What Drives Me – I hold an M.Sc. in Counselling Psychology and have worked as a school counsellor, college counsellor, and psychotherapist. My work includes individual therapy, designing and facilitating social-emotional learning programmes, parenting consultations, teacher trainings, and institutional wellbeing initiatives. My training spans queer-affirmative counselling, trauma-informed care, restorative practices, positive parenting, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and POSH training. I engage in regular clinical supervision and ongoing learning, guided by the belief that therapy is a continually evolving practice. Alongside professional training, my own experiences with anxiety brings a more natural sensitivity and understanding to how vulnerable it can feel to ask for support for yourself or your child.
Take the First Step – I currently offer online therapy. If you are an individual looking for a calm, affirming space to explore your inner world, or you’re a parent seeking thoughtful support for your child, you’re welcome to reach out. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel supported, and reconnect with what feels meaningful. I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.

What clients can expect

Over the past five years, working across schools, colleges, and private practice has allowed me to support children, adolescents, and adults through a range of emotional and relational challenges. This breadth of experience enables me to respond in developmentally sensitive ways and adapt therapy to your unique context rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, burnout, identity questions, or parenting stress, I aim to meet you where you are, with steadiness, attunement, and respect for your pace.
Academic & Clinical Foundation : I hold an M.Sc. in Counselling Psychology, and my work is informed by training in Queer-Affirmative Counselling Practice (Mariwala Health Initiative), Trauma-Informed Care (I Am Wellbeing), and Positive Parenting (Raising Family Academy). I also draw from my training in restorative practices, social-emotional learning, and POSH, and engage in regular clinical supervision.
Assessment & Therapeutic Experience : I have over five years of experience providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults across school, college, and private practice settings. Working across age groups helps me respond thoughtfully to different developmental stages and emotional needs. I engage in regular clinical supervision and ongoing training to ensure my work remains ethical, reflective, and responsive.
Multidisciplinary & Rehabilitation Work : My areas of specialisation include anxiety, emotional regulation, trauma, grief and loss, attachment and relationship concerns, identity and sexuality exploration, parenting support, and developmentally sensitive work with children and adolescents.
Current Counselling: I currently work as a counselling psychologist offering online therapy to children, teenagers, and adults. I work extensively with students, working professionals, parents, and queer and trans individuals navigating concerns such as trauma, anxiety, burnout, parenting challenges, and life transitions, within a depth oriented, affirming, and collaborative therapeutic space.

How My Experience Guides You

My work is person-centered and grounded in humanistic and existential traditions. I believe we grow when we feel genuinely seen, heard, and not judged. Therapy, for me, is a space to explore meaning, choice, identity, and the influence of lived experience, not a space to fix what is broken. I practise through a trauma-informed and intersectional lens, with close attention to safety, consent, power, and context. I am queer-affirmative and committed to offering an inclusive space where you can arrive as you are and be met with curiosity, compassion, and respect.

A Personal Word for You

If you are considering therapy, there is often already a part of you that knows something needs tending to. Reaching out can feel vulnerable. I understand that personally, having navigated anxiety myself. You do not need to have clarity or the right words before beginning. Whether you are seeking support for yourself or your child, we can move gently and thoughtfully. Therapy can be a space to pause, make sense of what you are carrying, and feel less alone in it.
